Questions about job planning and career objectives

In an interview, interviewer will ask you about job planning and career objectives. These are some my questions and suggestive answers:

1.What are your long range goals; short range goals and objectives?

As for my short range goals, I want to handle the job well at first. That means I must work hard and complete the work well. I’m going to establish excellent client relationship and achieve the projects… Come to the long range goals and objectives, I should be helping the company develop and succeed. To exceed those goals, maybe I define two to three key objectives and then develop timetables and action plans to support our business objectives, get everything in writing, establish a frame of reference for the work ahead, for example. To help the company succeed, that’s my success, I think.

2. What specific goals other than those related to your occupation, have you established for yourself for the next ten years?

Well, other goals, that’s quite interesting. Uhm, I think I’ll get married and start a family, say, five years. That’s important, huh? In addition to that, I have plans to go back to school to learn new skills that would benefit the company and travel around Vietnam. I’ll open a charitable fund for the poor to help them exceed their trouble. Perhaps, I pay attention to some sports to keep fit, for example aerobics or sport dance, etc.

3. What do you see yourself doing 5 years from now? 10 years from now?

Although it’s very difficult to predict some things far into the future, but I know what direction I want to do. Within 5 years, well, I would like to become the very best employee you company has on staff, maybe a director. I also want to become the expert that others rely upon. And in doing so, I feel I’ll be prepared to take on any greater responsibilities that might be presented in the long term. In 10 years, that’s a really sort of long range thing. Perhaps, that’s a good time for me back to school to continue my study, you know, help me develop my knowledge. Yeah, I think that’s a good idea, to have a break, studying something new and refreshed myself before moving on.

4. What do you really want to do in life?

Oh, that’s an interesting question. This question is always on my mind, I should say. Yeah, I want to do things which I am interested in. I want to travel so much! But general speaking, I want to have happiness and people’s respect. This is very important in my life. I want to have a good job, a happy family and also make the people around me happy, too. I want to be a successful woman and I’m recognized by everyone. I want to help the poor exceed their trouble. If I have a lot of money, I’ll open a charitable fund to help them. But now, I only can do some small things. I wish I could do my wish as soon as possible.

5. What are your long range career objectives?

I think I’m a rather practical person, and I don’t waste time day-dreaming some tremendous success. As far as my long range job objectives, I hope I’ll greatly improve my skills and help the organization at a higher level. I’ll lead the staff to develop and maintain close relationship with various corporations and the media, promote the programs we launch and make the best of the resources available to contribute to the prosperity of the organization.

6. How do you plan to achieve your career goals?

Obviously, it makes time and effort to achieve the career goals. As it says, Rome was not built in one day. Well, what I’m going to do first is to do some investigation to find out the problems. There are many ways to do it, for instance, listening to the people concerned, reading the previous documents and records, etc. After that, I’ll try to have some meetings discussing with the colleagues about what to do in order to solve the problems. I’ll suggest some solutions and again listen to the others. Besides, I’m going to learn more about financial accounting. With all that, I think I’ll achieve my career goals step by step.

7. What are the most important rewards you expect in your business career?

Yeah, actually when you work hard to contribute for that company, you always want to be rewarded in some ways. To me, I want to develop my career in highest skill, go abroad to study or work with modern technology. After some years, I want to be promoted to higher position. And I don’t deny that money is one of the most important. Many people will agree to that.

In five years I expect to be earning more experiences, knowledge, and a good living as well. If everything goes on smoothly, I want to be getting an advanced degree in law.

9. Why did you choose the career you are preparing?

There are two reasons. First of all, I always want to become a businessman. It’s amazing! Second, I think economic is growing rapidly and there are many foreign companies which invest into Vietnam. It means that they need a lot of professional people in this field. That’s the reason why I choose my career.

Lastly, I think it’s also important for a successful manager to know the position of the department in the entire organization and hence be able to maintain a harmonious, cooperative relation with the other departments.
